My Son's First Teacher

When my sister suggested that I should transfer Riley into a private school, I ask her what's wrong in a public school? She said "Wala matutunan si Riley don!"

That's the biggest misconception about public school. Just because it's cheap and doesn't come with aircondition rooms doesn't mean wala nang matutunan ang bata. My problem with riley is this: for example, when his teacher ask them to get their yellow notebook, he will get his blue notebook. Not because he doesn't know what color yellow is, but because he just wants to get the blue one! In short, yung gusto nya ang masusunod! That was Riley in the first few days of school. But I am seeing improvements and I know he will master the art of obeying in the following days.

Riley on his first day of school

I will admit that my son's classroom is crowded. Therefore his teacher is not able to check every student's work. But it's ok with me. Public or private, we as parents should be our children's first teacher. Hindi lahat maituturo sa school. Education should start at our very own home. Morally or intellectually, it should always begins from home.

As for me, I am happy pouring all my knowledge to my son. He still amazes me. And the latest discovery is nakakasulat na siya ng letters without tracing. Tinawag na lang niya ako at pinakita ang sulat niyang A. The good thing about kids is you can teach them kahit hindi sa scientific way. I mean Riley learned colors by his car! And from there, natutunan na nya ang diffent colors. Pati pagbilang, he learned while playing his toys!

He spends most of his after school time making these

He has a poster of animals and he will look at it and copy the letters.

Riley imitating the face he draw! Haha!

So you see my dear sister Janice, it doesn't matter if Riley is in a public or a private school. He has a teacher in me and he will learn regardless of what his school is! I am my son's first and forever teacher.

Kind Words

I have another New Year's resolution that I want to add.
A kind word/s to everyone I talk to.
Hindi kailangan bongga o magsinungaling.

"Blooming ka!"
"Ang bait mo!"
"Ang galing naman!"
"Godbless!"
"Salamat!"
Kind words.

Kind words should not be exaggerated or extravagant. It just needs to be the truth. It need to be spoken at all cost. For life is too short to speak cruel and harsh words. Huwag ng maging bitter. It's time to be better!

Thank you Perci and Euna. You taught me that I should say kind words instead of the generic comments. Kagaya ng iniwan mong comment sakin nun:

Salamat sa inyo at alam kong nasaan man kayo ngayon, you are both at peace. So long my friends, until we meet again.......

My Last Will When I Die

This is a post I've been putting off to write for a while now. Medyo mdrama kasi. As much as possible I avoid topics like these 'coz there's too much drama in the world to add my personal "kadramahan" to it.

Recently, two of my classmates died. It was sudden, unexpected. They are both my age. One has a son too while the other one is married. They are too young to die in my opinion. But is there a fitting age to die? That's my problem about death. We're all going there but who wants to rush it? How do you prepare for something na hindi mo alam kailan mangayayari? Honestly, I don't want to die. God knows this and we're still not finish with our discussion. HE knows I am not ready yet and I'm still negotiating my terms to HIM. The truth is I don't ever want to leave my son. I want to be with him forever. I fear oblivion just like Augustus Waters from the book The Fault in Our Stars. I fear that when I die, Riley will eventually forget about me and my love for him. That he won't know anything about me or how much I love him. That's why I plead to God na sana pag malaki na si Riley at may apo na ko saka na lang nya ako kunin. I know I can only ask God but in the end HIS will be done.

So that leads me with this request. Can I ask you a favor? If ever I die unexpectedly and won't be able to say goodbye to Riley will you do something for me? When I die, and you came across Riley, just say something, anything about me. Like how you met me, or how am I as a friend, things like that. Tell him that his mama loves him so much that even when I'm gone, I care for his well being. That his mama wants him to be strong when he is confronted with problem. That he can rely on God when he feels alone. That he can talk to me in his prayer and I will be able to hear it. By that, I am hoping that he won't forget me. I know it sounds silly but can you do that for me? That's all I ask if ever I won't be there to do all that for him.

If you can promise that to me, then I guess I can accept death peacefully. I just want Riley to know I LOVE HIM and nothing, not even death could end that love.
